冷たい雲が、
地べたにすれすれに垂れました。
そして、
海には東うねりが咲きました。
強いオフショア風と砲弾のように鳴りつける波。
およそ５０年前にベン・アイパによってデザインされたサーフボード。
それを前田博士が鉄腕アトムのようにリ・メイクしてくれた。
パドルアウトすると、
陸から見ていたよりもワイルドな波が散らばっていました。
ずっと、
レッド・ツェッペリンの楽曲が頭の中にリフレインされ、
ラインナップでは、
ダニー・メルハド師範の教えのひとつに
「波面の全て」というのがあり、
そのことばかり考えていました。
教えを思い出し、
次の波、
そしてまたという感じで私は波に乗りました。
波のトップでストールすると、
押し上げられた風によって、
空に飛ばされそうになりました。
浮遊の楽しさは人生の楽しさ。
そこにはそれらが凝縮していました。
サーフィンを終えてからずっと、
波を見渡せる丘の上に立ってしばらく海を見ていました。
風はまだ止まず、
強い波はずっと雷鳴を轟かせていた。
Hello Chiba Jeffries.
Cold clouds hung down on the ground.
And the eastern swell bloomed in the sea.
Strong offshore winds and cannonball-sounding waves.
I had a surfboard designed about 50 years ago.
When I paddled out,
it was wilder than it looked,
and Led Zeppelin’s songs were refrained in my head.
What I was thinking about in the lineup was
“all of the wave surface”
as one of the teachings of Okinawa master Danny Melhado.
Recalling that, and again,
the next wave, and so on, I rode the wave.
When I stalled at the top of the wave,
I was about to take off from the wind that was pushed up into the sky.
The fun of floating in the sky is the fun of life.
The fun was condensed there.
After surfing,
I stood on an artificial hill overlooking the waves and watched the waves for a while.
The wind hadn’t stopped yet,
and the strong waves were thundering all the time.
